Women in Coffee

Join us for our (early) International Women’s Day event, celebrating the wonderful women in coffee!

A conversation not to be missed, we will be hearing from two speakers from both at home and abroad – Raquel Girdon Rosales and Sheila Dowling.

Raquel Girdon Rosales is a Fairtrade coffee farmer from COMISUYL coop in Subirana, Honduras.

COMISUYL coop in Subirana, Honduras, has 105 members. It was founded in 1997. With the support of Fairtrade, the coop has been able to secure a premium for their coffee. This enables the coop to improve their livelihoods and support local communities – such as building a drying patio and storage facility and supporting local schools.

Sheila Dowling, Commercial Director of Bewley’s LTD, has over 17 years’ experience working in the coffee industry. Sheila has travelled to Colombia, Brazil, and Nicaragua where she had the pleasure of meeting some fantastic people through visiting farms, meeting the coffee growers and their families, and visiting the Fairtrade Cooperatives who supply Bewley’s with the amazing coffee that is roasted in Bewley’s in Northern Cross.
